“Embark With Sincerity Towards Tranquility”

Since it was erected in 1866, the shrine of the Muslim saint Habib Noh Al-Habshi and the Haji Muhammad Salleh Mosque which is adjacent to it has been a spiritual oasis in the city.

Through the decades and challenges such as being submerged by the tides, World War II, land developments, and demolishment, these two key architectural sacred monuments have stood the test of time. However, the condition of the shrine and part of the mosque is in a weakened state with a lot of repairs and construction needed. Hence, plans are now in motion to restore and refurbish it which will cost three million dollars. Our priority is to ensure the comfort, convenience, and safety of visitors.

Some of the scopes of work to be done are:

  • Restoration of the façade
  • Installing an appropriate waterproofing system
  • Replacement of the dome
  • Changeover a new elevator
  • Repairing the front and back chamber
  • Upgrading of the front and side staircase

Defects and Damages

Years of exposure to the weather and environment, also with current on going constructions nearby, the maqam building has accumulated and sustained multiple defects and damages. Click on the images below to view the various defects and damages found in the interior and exterior of maqam building.

The Holy Prophet ﷺ said:

When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jaariyah (ongoing charity); knowledge which is beneficial; or a righteous child who will pray for him.” (Muslim)

He ﷺ has narrated:

“The believer’s shade on the Day of Judgement will be his charitable acts” [Tirmidhi]

He ﷺ also said:

When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jaariyah (ongoing charity); knowledge which is beneficial; or a righteous child who will pray for him.” (Muslim)
