Spiritual Oasis In The City

Masjid Haji Muhammad Salleh sits on piece of waqaf land within the bustling Central Business District. The mosque is flanked to the left by the elevated Keppel Viaduct and on its right by Mount Palmer on which sit two important shrines of Habib Noh and Habib Abdurrahman.

Since it was erected in 1866, the shrine of the Muslim saint Habib Noh Al-Habshi and the Haji Muhammad Salleh Mosque which is adjacent to it has been a spiritual oasis in the city. Years of exposure to the weather and environment, also with current on going constructions nearby, the maqam building has accumulated and sustained multiple defects and damages. Hence, plans are now in motion to restore and refurbish Maqam Habib Noh.

Maqam Habib Noh

Maqam Habib Noh is the mausoleum of Sayyid Noh bin Sayyid Mohamad bin Sayyid Ahmad Al-Habsyi (1788 – 1866), a saint whose lineage traces back to Prophet Muhammad SAW. He was well-known for his widely reported miracles and his immense compassion for people in his times. The mausoleum also houses the tomb of another saint, Habib Abdurrahman, a relative of Habib Noh.
